Vendor Feature: DJ Lee Dyson
Selecting a killer DJ is especially challenging because it’s one of the least tangible things during the purchase phase, but yet one of the most important elements to ensure an amazing reception.
Step 1: Hire a professional wedding coordinator
A professional Coordinator will help you find the venue that is right for your guest count and keep you from overspending all your budget on a venue and then not having enough left to secure killer vendors.
Step 2: Have your venue and date secured, or at least narrowed down
You want a DJ that knows the venue well or is willing to do a site visit to estimate travel time with traffic, load-in process, location of power, etc.
Run from any DJ that will tell you they can do multiple areas with one system.
Step 3:Create a total wedding budget, but leave some wiggle room for adjustments.
As you move into the planning phase and learn more about each vendor category, you may feel differently about what is most important to you, so don’t be locked rigidly to the first list of numbers you create.
Step 4:Do your research on several DJs and compare pricing vs experience level
Step 5: DJ has to create and maintain people’s interest in dancing for 3–4 hours straight! There is no first dance, no cake-cutting, or anything else to break up the night. If the DJ can’t read the room and manage their energy well, then people leave, so this skill set is very valuable to your wedding.
